Cancelled Sports

for Quarter 4

by: Julius Paul Lopez Muertegue

For the Final quarter at MIHS, there wasn’t any sport activities that was taking place around the school nor any activities that the MIHS sports team were taking part of. Due to the pandemic of COVID19, public activities such as parties, gatherings, major events, and especially sports such as Basketball games and volleyball games meant to take place for the school’s sports league hosted by MOE were cancelled. P.S.S. announced that any school activities and gatherings should be cancelled in order to prevent any spread of the Virus that may occur, as a safety measure issued by the Ministry of Health in order to keep RMI “Virus free.”

This Problem has prevented many schools to participation in most of the yearly sport activities that is one of the main sport events that M.I.H.S. always join. Although M.I.H.S. has participated in most of the sport events that has taken place, the only sport event that M.I.H.S. was unable to join was the May day games that featured Basketball, Volleyball and etc. Although the 4th quarter was short and didn’t have many events, it was a shame that most outdoor activities were cancelled by the government. The school is hoping that this Pandemic will blow down in order for the school to continue participating in the usual sport activities and events that will hopefully be hosted again.

May day Tournament Games Cancelled

BY: Paulini Maitokana

With sports being the few things you can do on this atoll, it has been mostly restricted from happening due to Covid-19. Though the government is taking precautions on this very serious matter, still it is quite a bummer for us." I feel sad and depressed," claimed Selma Capelle of 11A. Since gatherings of all kinds has been put into pause, it is possible for this constitution day events will be canceled ,too. The canoe races, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Tug of war, Basketball, Racing, and other activities that mostly take place every year. Sure this may not be the greatest of time but there's always next year, and we must hope that life will go back to normal.

No P.E!

By: Paulini Maitokana

Yes, you read the title right! This 4th quarter started with a big bang till the principal herself announced that there would not be anymore Physical Education(P.E) due to the serious pandemic Covid-19." It's boring but it's safe," said Bethlehem Reiher of 11D. Though this might be a big disappointment to the students, but we should also be vigilant in this time of crisis. We must encourage others that this is an issue that should be taken seriously so please follow the advise given by the principal. Even if it means to stay in class 6 feet apart.

I WAS SUSPENDED!

Boy’s Team Captain Speaks out..

The 2nd Quarter of this school year came off short of what the team and I expected. We started off with good winning streak against M.B.C.A., A.H.S., and Rong-Rong High school. We trained and worked hard for the three wins and we were all happy that we reached the first round of the playoffs in the first tournament. I was suspended because of the unexpected brawl that took place during our game against A.H.S.. However, that didn't stop my team mates from working towards our target of beating Rong-Rong High School, one of the best teams in the league. We almost beat the best team and the champion, Laura High School, but we came off short by two points. Although the boys were really disappointed for the loss, this has motivated us to do better in the next tournament which will be held on May Day.
