First-ever Spirit Week at MIHS

During the fourth week of October, the students of M. I. H. S had their spirit week for the very first time. Spirit week consisted of fun activities form Monday 28th to Thursday 31st. On the very first day, which was twin day, students mirrored each other by replicating one another. Tuesday was career day in which students were required to wear something representing their future careers or interested work sites. Wednesday was crazy day; students were dressed up in wacky clothes and funny outfits that brought outrageous excitements and everyone actually smiled and laughed the whole day. The last day was costume day. There was shortened schedule throughout the week and students went home with candies and unforgettable memories. As said by a senior, Benjamin Bernie "This was the best week out of all my weeks in school so far." The week ended with a "treat or trick" where students spoiled each other with more candies.

New Uniform for MIHS Girls

It was good news to the MIHS girls when they were allowed to wear long pants to school due to the dengue outbreak. According to the Daily Bulletin, the Ministry of Health (MOH) had advised all students, including all girls, to wear long pants to protect their bare legs from the dangerous mosquitoes that caused dengue fever. The school administrators took this opportunity to another whereby girls were informed to watch the kinds of pants they wear to school. "Any pants are allowed as long as they are are not ripped or inappropriate in any way", Ms Barbara, the School Principal said. The girls have also been given a choice, either to wear their uniform blouse with the green skirt or to wear the boys' polo shirt with pants during school hours. The school would still have to wait for the green light from the MOH to revert this directive regarding proper school wear for our girls. "So far the girls are adjusting well to the change," said Lillyann Hermios a senior student.

Iakwe &Welcome back to the new School Year
The new school year 2019-2020 got a head start by MIHS new administrative staff. Mrs. Barbara Ned as the new School principal, Mrs. Kathy will continue to serve as the Vice Principal Academics, and Mr. Marty Mark as the new Vice Principal Student Affairs. However, the school administrators were not the only new starts happening here on M.I.H.S campus. We have yet to come to the beautiful redecoration of the library. A huge shout out to Mrs. Suciana for her wonderful efforts in making sure the place of reading for students is comfortable. "I feel like this year is going to be very different. In a good way," said Daverson Elanzo from 11A.
For the past two months, the school's SBG officers, staff, and volunteering students have done community services. The main reason for these sudden events has everything to do with showing appreciation for our community. These types of activities take place once a month throughout the whole island. Last September, students started cleaning up from Katwoj Park to Enedoul. Transportation, food, and water were provided. There were a few students at that time, which explains why the clean up finished around lunchtime. This fantastic group did not stop there. They went out again last month, Oct 26. Sweat was poured as they helped better our living conditions, from Enedoul to President Hilda C. Heine's residence. Despite the hot weather, their endurance carried on. WELCOME PARTY

Starting off another school year with a tradition, the Welcome Party was a success for this year's SBG, students and teachers of Marshall Islands High School. Welcoming our freshmen, transfer students, and new teachers has always been a must for our beloved school.So why not having a run-way just for their grand entrance? Not forgetting the talented dance moves shown by their escorts and the lei's of gum provided by the fellow students of MIHS. Yes there were some slight changes, but aren't it those changes that makes every welcome party memorable for. This year's would most certainly be the unexpected rain shower, the entertainment, the talent, and the support of the rest of the school.
On that note, we the Current, would like to thank and recognize those who worked behind the scenes to make everything happen. To the staff and faculty who helped provided the tools and resources for the party. Our 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who helped with the assembling, climbing, digging and preparations. To the principal and vice principals, Mrs. Barbara, Mrs. Kathy and Mr. Marty for advising and helping the SBG planning the event. We thank you for your highly appreciated help and it is amazing knowing that the entire school is willingly to help out in important events like this. With our first school year event ending in a great start, let's see what is yet installed for us in the next coming weeks.
Thursday (Manit Week)
The main activities for the Manit Week happened on late Thursday the 24th. The students were required to wear Island Style Clothes for the day. Each grade level was to represent different countries in the world as for its Kings and Queens. These countries were, Marshall Islands, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Kosrae, South Korea, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and USA. The King and Queen Show was judged in three different categories which are, Best Costumes,Public View and Overall. The Marshall Islands King and Queen won the title for Public View, Solomon Islands won the Best Costumes and the Overall went to the Philippines. Even though the weather was bad that afternoon the students were still active for the program. After all, it was a fun program and everyone enjoyed looking at different cultural wears frome these chosen countries.
